Challenges
To make a single storey in an exposed site as energy efficient as possible without compromising design. Local planning allowed only for a single storey dwelling , even with restriction to size and shape of the house, the owners designed the house to ensure the best internal design concepts, using the best materials (from an ecological standpoint) to provide a energy efficient home suitable for a young family.
Strategy
Major challenge was to minimise penetration of the building to maintain airtightness (floor, ceilings and shell of the building). As this is an airtight house all services come into the house from underground and no lighting will reside in the ceilings.
