The house needed to integrate as naturally as possible into its surrounds and not infringe on the abundant nature in the area.
Single Storey together with a low pitched roof of 12.5 degrees, was crucial to ensure sunlight was not interfered with and was naturally allowed to influence the flora and fauna of the area, (for example so there would be no shadows on the Pond which is North East of the House).
The roof was the biggest challenge. Given the low pitched roof access was not possible in all areas of the house. Therefore all ducting for the heat recovery system and all electrical wiring was completing prior to insulating.
Walls were firstly plastered with ISOVER Airtight quite plaster. This was then covered by 62.5mm insulated plasterboard.
The strategy was to deliver a house, which fitted with its surrounding and made maximum use of the natural resources available. Requirement was for an end product, which required low heating costs going forward and had optimum levels of insulation. The use of Isover products have assisted mostly in this process and this is evident in the fact that the oil fired central heating has rarely been used throughout the cold winter of 2011/’12.
