Francis Clauson’s Ultra Low Energy House, Kiltilly, Co. Wexford, is a passive house residential new build project submitted by Winkins Architecture & Integrated Energy. Achieving a space heat demand of just 13.4 kWh/m2.a & airtightness result of 0.58 m3/h.m2, this project demonstrated that a low energy house could be built in the traditional style within tight planning restraints on form and height of residential constructions, and achieve passive house certification. This innovative project, also involving, Gr8 Developments, was designed to achieve the highest possible levels of thermal comfort and energy efficiency, and ensure an Air tightness strategy was developed along with a continuous insulation wrap to help create a thermal bridge free construction. Incorporating photovoltaic array panels combined with a heat pump to supply low temperature underfloor heating.
