The IIEA's Annual Retrofit Conference is aimed at all professionals for those involved in the Irish retrofit industry. This conference is a must for those who wish to become involved in this rapidly expanding sector, to gain insight into the latest industry trends and policy developments, or to network with peers and key figures in the industry.
This conference encourages participants to exchange and share knowledge and experience in the field., to highlight the importance of improving the energy performance of our buildings and, subsequently, the inhabitants' quality of life.

The construction sector is at the dawn of a green revolution. Growing awareness of environmental issues, such as global warming, and the ever-increasing scarcity of natural resources is driving countries towards introducing new energy-saving regulations in buildings. Sustainable development has become a key factor in product specification and Saint-Gobain has an extensive product portfolio equipped to meet this requirement.

Much of Ireland’s existing building stock continues to consume a considerable amount of energy for heating with significant emissions of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels as a result.

New building regulations coupled with a change in consumer behaviour and attitudes has led to a significant increase in the number of renovation and construction projects embracing energy efficient design.

The Market is constantly looking for examples of how exactly to retrofit Irelands building stock, they need the exact details on how it should be done, what systems and skills are necessary to ensure a quality job. Quality workmanship is essential to ensure the homeowner is not disappointed, and thus to ensure the sustainability of the RMI market in Ireland.

Saint Gobain wordwide, thanks to its massive R&D spend and expertise, has a vast range of products to help with these challenges, including the most efficient mineral wool insulation solutions, external wall insulation systems, highly energy efficient glass solutions and the most technologically advanced photovoltaic systems.

Referring to the Governments programme for renovating and improving the existing building stock to improve their energy efficiency and meet sustainability standards. Mr. Brian Dolan, Managing Director in Ireland said: Saint-Gobain opened a Technical Academy in May of 2010 to train and educate building professionals, upskiling the Irish construction workforce to ensure a sustainable construction industry, as well as quality, comfortable, low energy buildings.

“We use the Technical Academy to showcase the solutions offered by each of these brands and to train both our customers and Irish craftspeople in their use and application”, said Mr. Dolan.

We have developed an interesting and exciting range of courses. These are both practical and technical, depending on the requirements of the attendees. We have also invested a significant amount of time and effort in training our trainers, so that they are well equipped to impart knowledge of all the Saint-Gobain products and systems, and deal with all technical questions from visitors”.

So what solutions have you for the Retrofit Market?

Gyproc, Isover and Weber, have joined forces to create Renovate Right, a one-stop shop for thermal and acoustic solutions to future proof homes. As less people are making the move and increasingly looking to renovate, Gyproc, Isover and Weber have responded to an increased need from consumers for the best solution to create a comfortable living environment and protect their home against rising energy bills thus increasing their value by helping houses achieve better energy ratings.

Since the demise of the Celtic Tiger, Irish homes have seen plummeting values which has led to less movement of householders to new homes and negative equity as an increasing problem. This phenomenon has given rise to more homeowners investing into energy proofing their houses through Government sponsored retrofit programmes which will see the cost of heating homes fall. Ireland currently has about 1.8 million homes with an estimated 70% (or just over 1.2 million) of these needing to boost their energy ratings. This huge figure has come about through poor construction standards over the past few decades and especially during the recent boom years coupled with rapidly rising energy costs driven by dwindling availability of fossil fuels.

“Renovate Right is a cost effective one-stop-shop solution that can tackle our home energy and environmental needs. We are the market leaders and the only Irish manufacturer with the complete range of solutions through Renovate Right to solve the future-proofing challenge of our homes”.

Renovate Right offers consumers an innovative range of systems for all areas of the home allowing them to choose from thermal and acoustic solutions for external walls, internal walls, floors, ceilings, roofs and attic conversions. So whether you are insulating your attic, insulating your walls (no matter what type of wall), converting rooms to make additional space….. we have the solution.  We’ve been around for 75 years, and our systems carry warranties and in certain cases NSAI certification, so our message is peace of mind for the homeowner….your dealing with the right people.
