The project involved a new build, detached, two-storey, three-bedroom house. After a thorough design period during which alternatives to foam insulation were sought, installation of airtightness & insulation materials commenced in October 2018.

The Challenge

The initial project requirements included an excellent thermal and acoustic finish on the pitched roof, ensuring that the insulation materials chosen offered added ease of installation, as well as compatibility with the Vario airtightness & moisture control system. The insulation material chosen to go on the face of the pitched roof rafter was ISOVERs InLiner board, a pre-laminated insulation board with a Gyproc plasterboard finish.  ISOVER Metac High-Performance Insulation Roll 180mm was chosen as the insulation material to be installed between the rafters.

The installation team from Viewpoint construction received a toolbox talk on the installation of both InLiner and the Vario system, and found themselves installing the product with reduced wastage and mess compared to the foam products that they had sometimes installed in the past. In addition to that, they were happy to experience increased acoustic performance, even on an anecdotal basis, as they completed the installation of InLiner on the pitched roof and knee walls of the house.

Approach

Upon completion of plastering of the InLiner, the team noted that the product handled well, offered some flexibility during the installation which allowed them to ensure a good finish on all joints, but also was strong enough not to compress. The plasterers who applied skim coat to the face of the board commented that they found the board easy to use and problem free during the installation.

In addition to the pitched roof, the external wall insulation and attic insulation in the house was ISOVER Comfort 35 and ISOVER Spacesaver insulation, respectively. The partitions contained ISOVER Acoustic roll, to ensure acoustic privacy between habitable rooms.
